About Private Well Primer

Private Well Primer is an independent website for people who get their drinking water from a private well. Public water systems are regulated and tested. Private wells usually are not, so the owner has to work out what to test, where to send samples, and what the results mean.

What we do

• Collect official guidance from state health and environmental agencies, the U.S. EPA, the CDC, and land-grant university extension programs.
• Link every fact to its source and show the date we last checked it.
• Point out when we couldn’t verify something, so you know to double-check it.

What we don’t do

• We don’t give medical advice. If you’re worried about your health, talk to a health care provider or your local health department.
• We don’t test water. Certified laboratories do.
• We don’t let commercial relationships decide what official resources we list. See our affiliate disclosure.
